EZY and FR Expansion (Merged)

http://www.easyjet.co.uk/EN/News/largest_airline_in_the_north_west.html

Going to be interesting to see what EZY brings to MAN. Hope these two work together rather than cancelling eachother out!

The massive expansion that was hinted at in the press the day before related to the fact RYR were going to announce alot of routes in total. This they did, but I think people generally misinterpreted this to mean it meant massive expansion at evey airport a press conference was being held. Looking at the announcements – it obviously didn’t.

Was told today that the MAN announcement, and the very public hint at more routes, is all part of a tactical game being played out with 2 other Northern Airports where Ryanair actually want to base 2 or 3 aircraft from Winter 08/09. Keep watching on that one.

Anyone got dates when RYR flights start and what the frequencies are. From a quick look they don’t look like they are daily or at times that are convenient to the buisiness or leisure traveller.

So is this a cursory dip into the market like LPL-INV and ABZ were last spring and summer and which will be removed at the end of the summer? Or are they just slot sitters so that RYR can build their own market slot to East Europe destinations?

It is massive expansion by FR at MAN – two destinations currently to 6 in March, 10 by June and 14 by 2009. That is pretty impressive stuff, even if frequencies on the routes are likely to be 3 or 4 weekly.

Persoanlly all that fuss they were making over how they are going to have the biggest expansion ever was to spoil EZY Limelight moment. 15 new routes WOW FR you have really inpressed me there. And 4 are from MAN that was the biggest expansion i have ever seen. EZY intrest me more than them. I am please that EZY are in at MAN. I see EZY making MAN i kinda holiday base with most routes to exzotic destinations.

I wish FR would have a ‘jealousy act….. ‘ against Jet2 at LBA! Would love to see them expand at LBA.

Personally, I think it’s only a matter of time until we see GRO-LBA. It’s now one of the very few airports in England that FR don’t operate there from.

Massive Expansion at MAN? Thats not massive! 😮
They were just looking to steal EZY’s limelight, and to be honest, the EZY announcement interests me more than RYR’s!

I understand FR have been talking to MAN for just as long as EZY so there ciuld have been two sets of negotiating teams at MAN, neither of whom at liberty to disclose to the other airlines what was happening.

Yes, I understand FR/MAN negotiations have been ongoing for some time. EZY had slots allocated last year but never took them up.

Well it is if you think about it. FR could of done that last week or even before EZY acquired GB Airways. Instead they think right beacuse EZY is expanding from MAN we shall expand from MAN

I understand FR have been talking to MAN for just as long as EZY so there ciuld have been two sets of negotiating teams at MAN, neither of whom at liberty to disclose to the other airlines what was happening. You may have noticed that over the past couple of years, FR introdued SNN and increased it and have expanded DUB to 5 daily -> there was a time when the cut back drastically from MAN due to “high charges”, but recently most times when Michael O’Leary has spoken about STN’s new runway costing so much, he’s compared to the cost of the new one at MAN. The era of having MAN looking toward BA and their entourage has now officially ended. The future’s blue and orange! The 40 million passengers per year by 2025 is perhaps not now an overly ambitious total:

Adding 3 easyJet 156s seat A319s operating 3 sectors each day makes about 1,000,000 available seats to fill when compared to now.

Even if FR were to base just 2 189 seat 738s operating 3 sectors each day, it would add a further 800,000 seats available. So that’s a hell of a jump: it works out to be an 8% increase for MAN from 2 airlines growth.

Ok i have to give in on this one FR are a airline which is turning over profit etc and have a good kinda service onboard(once everything has come to about £400). I wouldnt mind them expanding from MAN LBA LPL MME NEW anywhere else it is just when EZY decided to expand they jump on there boat and go along with the same thing instead of announcing it in the new year when everything has calmed down and MAN Manegment are taking everything in there stride. Well Lets hope then the FR when they start to do Long Haul Expand at MAN.

RYR and EZY expansion at MAN

…….

EasyJet and Ryanair lay out Manchester development plans
David Kaminski-Morrow, London (17Dec07, 10:51 GMT, 256 words)

Budget carrier EasyJet is to develop the Manchester base obtained through its takeover of GB Airways as Irish rival Ryanair prepares to unveil its own route expansion from the airport.

EasyJet is to maintain the two aircraft and the six routes at Manchester acquired through GB Airways and will add another three aircraft by 2010. By then the carrier expects to be transporting 1.4 million passengers on its network from the northern UK city.

“At the time of the GB Airways announcement we didn’t know at the time what to do with Manchester,” says a spokeswoman for EasyJet.

But she says the carrier “recognises the strategic importance” of Manchester. The carrier expects to introduce the new aircraft by around winter 2008 and the spokeswoman says any new routes would be detailed nearer time.

Ryanair is also intending to unveil expansion plans at Manchester tomorrow. It is to host a briefing at the airport at which, it says, it will detail the airline’s “biggest-ever route expansion”.

But Ryanair head of sales and marketing Caroline Baldwin insists that the expansion is not in response to the EasyJet developments.

She states that the expansion is the result of talks with Manchester Airport’s operator and a continuation of its developments at other UK regional airports including East Midlands.

“It’s quite separate [from EasyJet],” she claims. “But it does add a little spice to things.”

EasyJet will also base another two aircraft at Liverpool where it already has eight jets. This will bring the airline’s Liverpool fleet to 10 by 2010.

No This Cant Be True. EZY i am pleased with. It is the jeasouly act from FR that i am not. FR maybe a good sucessfull airline but they dont have a fantastic customour reputation.

Well i think that one of the LCC currently or going to be based at MAN will now be looking to expand into FR’S back yard. LS to LPL or EMA!!!

Hi

THE NORTHWEST LOW COST AIR WAR HAS STARTED.

Following on from Easyjets announcement today Ryanair are now at it. Well thats According to radio merseyside.

Ryanair have called news conferences in both liverpool and manchester tomorrow (18/12) “to announce their largest ever expansion”.

RYANAIR, Europe’s largest budget airline, is set to announce a major expansion of its Manchester services.

The move by the Irish carrier comes hours after MEN Business broke the news that easyJet will begin operating out of Manchester early next year.

Dublin-based Ryanair, led by the charismatic and outspoken Michael O’Leary, currently operates flights to Dublin and Shannon from Manchester.

It is understood that the airline will be doubling the number of flights and launching new destinations in the coming months.

After the sale of BA’s Manchester-based regional airline BA Connect to low cost carrier Flybe this year, Manchester has become a major battleground for budget airlines.

In addition to exsisting players Flybe, Jet2, and bmibaby, the addition of easyJet and the expansion of Ryanair, will give passengers huge choice and should lead to ultra-competitive pricing.

On a different note, now that the first thing including GB is out, will we soon find out the new routes from LGW! SSH and Cyprus and Hurgarda are on the cards for me, and apparently they have been announcing these routes on easyJet flights so…!

Josh

I agree that these routes are quite likely. So far though, Biarritz is the only new destination announced at LGW for summer 08.

I’ve been thinking it was only a matter of time before EZY opened a MAN base, and when they took over GB Airways, I thought that’d leave them open to opening the base at MAN, and this only confirms my suspicions. It’s good that they’re opening other routes at MAN, so they’re not directly competing with EZY at LPL.
