EZY to base at Newcastle

Hi all. Just found this. Don’t know if its common knowledge or not yet but, I thought i’d share it with you lovely people. This is gud news for an already ‘doing-well’ Newcastle and I’m chuffed because its an airport that has a soft spot with me.

Low Fares Arrive in the North East

Newcastle Airport has today completed its biggest ever airline deal with the announcement that easyJet, Europe’s largest low fare airline, will establish a base at the Airport from Spring 2003. easyJet will announce in December the network of routes that will be available from Newcastle, bringing to the North East region a wide range of European destinations at low fares for the first time.

Newcastle Airport is to become easyJet’s fourth regional base in the UK with two aircraft to be based at the Airport next summer, rising to four aircraft in 2004. This base will also bring a jobs boost to the area through the local recruitment of ground based staff and cabin crew and the creation of new jobs in a wide range of other businesses already established at the Airport.
John Parkin, Chief Executive, said: “This is fantastic news not only for the Airport but for business and tourism throughout the region. It provides access to attractive European destinations at low fares for everyone in the North East, as well as encouraging visitors from outside our region to travel to and from Newcastle. We are delighted to have won this business against strong competition from many other airports in the UK and Europe.”
