EZY to launch services from Belfast City

EasyJet to test Belfast City operations

UK budget carrier EasyJet is to open services from Belfast City Airport, initially switching its London Luton link from Belfast International.

The change will take place on 7 January next year. EasyJet will operate twice-daily to Luton.

It says the decision to shift the service is to establish whether passengers benefit from using an airport closer to the city when flying on short routes.

“The only way to actually do this properly is to run a route from there,” sayts EasyJet’s UK regional general manager Paul Simmons.

“We will take our time in assessing the passenger feedback and then take a view on how best to configure our operations between the two airports in the longer term.”

EasyJet says it might consider additional frequencies and routes from Belfast City if the experiment is successful, but insists that “the bulk” of its operations will remain at Belfast International.

BMI, Flybe and Ryanair all operate to London airports from Belfast City.
