Indeed, I’m not knocking them. Was just a somewhat surprising reply…

You can see it at Croughton but the chances of taking a pic very low 😡

Roger Smith.

I asked the gate guard who rang his boss you said ‘yes’! But that was before the chain link fence was erected post 9-11.

re;

and lets face it, in the last 15 years, they have restored a hell of a lot of airframes, under a tight time shedule.

When I made my annual pilgrimage to Duxford last year I asked someone when she’d be restored. The answer was along the lines of ‘you’re having a larf aren’t you?’… 🙁

That’s not their fault though. The staff are all very keen and dedicated but when their budget has been massively slashed to fund the hosting of the Olympic Games there isn’t a lot they can do. Hence the fact that very little is visually moving forward in the conservation department.

It’s a shame, I would have loved to have seen her restored, but I guess restored in Poland is better than in a queue at Duxford.

The pilot of this aircraft was of polish decent and called the aircraft the polish glider.

The aircraft is still owned by the USAF museum and she has been in the same condition for a decade and always been put back in the preservation queue due to other projects.

The museum in Poland already have funds to restore her apparently so she is going to a good home.

whats the reason for this aircraft leaving? Seems a very important type in the history of the USAF, esp considering its role in vietnam, is it some kind of swap deal, or just a good cash offer?
