F-111 roman candle video from Wanaka

The particular aircraft that was displayed, if the RAAF commentator is to be beleived, was apparently 40 years old and had carried out over 100 missions in the Vietnam War bombing targets. It later crashed in the USA and after a two year rebuild was sold to the RAAF.

So, it’s a genuine warbird and certainly ranks among the more historic aircraft still in service.

I think the RAAF F-111 type is the only foreign service aircraft type to crash at a New Zealand airshow isn’t it? Ohakea, 1980 something-ish.

The F-111 is our front-line strike aircraft…surely they aren’t historic!!!!
