Begin nineties the Pentagon proposed two developments of the F-15. These comprised a relatively modest upgrade known as F-15X and a more serious challenge designated F-15XX all this in the search for a new tactical fighter. The F-15XX looked good on paper promising a 50% reduction in overall programme. However the lack of stealth and aerodynamic performance, compared to YF-22 and YF-23 denied it serious consideration.
Does somebody know what upgrades were planned for F-15X and XX ?
