OK before flaming me. I was wondering, as a plane developed for the Navy the F-18 of course wasn’t fitted with a drag shute. However quite a few air forces have ordered the plane as well and operate from normal landing strips, Finland, Spain and Switzerland come to mind. I know they retained their arrestor hook
Has it been considered to fit these land based aircraft with drag shutes to reduced their landing role. Ecspecially considering the road based operations Zwitserland and Finland often use in training missions. Or was it deemed unneccesary as the landing speed of the Hornet was low enough for a short landing role
Thanks in advance
PS, the reason why this question popped in my mind was because in Independence day Will Smith’s Hornet was equipped with a drag shute :diablo:
