F-35 "Dave" ???

Can some kind soul please put me out of my misery and tell me why the F-35 is apparently nicknamed “Dave”? Saw it on PPRuNe, but simply don’t have the time (especially with dial-up) to trawl through seventy-odd pages. Is it something to do with David cameron, ie trying to be all things to all men? Thanks.
