Was editing my reply when the previous thread was closed so am adding it over here : Lets not talk about politics or economics etc and keep the discussion strictly to the F-35 ..
Officially the program describes DAS as a Defensive IRST vs a fighter threat….So you have the EOTS and the DAS both of which have a overlapping function of sorts, where the former can focus on much narrow field of view with high degree of clarity and can cue precission A2G weaponry while the latter is more of a fish eye type of 360 degrees defensive suite that cues other sensors and provides all aspect day/night SA directly onto the HMD…

As you can see EOTS is much more DETAILED/High Resolution and just an overall more capable system, while the DAS is more defensive in nature…
