I have the complete cockpit interior of an ex USAF F-4C both front and rear cockpits all panels and instruments , sticks and two seat pans. Also have the front canopy from an RAF FGR2.
I am seeking either plans to build a replica cockpit section to put all these items in or a cockpit section to restore (bare shell). I know interior is F-4C but have space and time to make FGR2 section look right.
I know some time back someone built a replica FGR2 Cockpit from wood and it looked great and just wonderd if any one knew who that might be and if the have any plans from the build.
If anyone has a Phantom Cockpit section/simulator that I could come visit and measure up that would be great, the simulator cockpit would be great as it takes up less space in the hangar.
I look forward to your replies,

have you seen this?
F-4 REAR CANOPY & GLAS • $750 • AVAILABLE FOR SALE • Rear “Six” canopy removed from an unknown F-4 Phantom. It has the plexiglass in place and it was not cut when removed. The latches are in place as well as the mirrors on the front edge. The glass has scratches across the surface from storage and such but most should be able to be buffed out. • Contact Michael Ryan – AIRCRAFT STOCK located Cleveland, TN USA • Telephone: 423-438-0525 • Fax: 423-438-0526 • Posted May 4, 2007

XV420
very pi$$ed off about that one, I was the ‘mole’ (bunker mole to be precise) that tried to tip off Mick J at CS – he did his best but the wonkers at MoD weren’t interested in saving an F-4, even though the Air Defence Museum (about 5ft from it’s location at the main gate) would have seemed an obvious choice. Understand Mick got a few bits for his one – is there anything else left?

Anybody know if the nose of XV420 is still intact? (FGR2 that got the Chop at Neatishead back in mid 2005, Went to a scrap dealer in Coventry I do believe, there was some stuff still in the cockpit though 23 Sqn did remove some bits from the cockpit before she got the axe for the aircraft at Waddington)

Copy that , I want to keep it F-4C I have complete instrument panels front and rear and just want to find a donor cockpit section or sim pit to fit them into.
If there is any one with plans or drawings for an F-4 cockpit/simulator cockpit which could be used to replicate the mighty F-4 I would be very grateful……….
Interesting project.
In that case, i’m sure this website……
http://www.geocities.com/cap17.geo/main.html
…will be of use to you, as this guy has already done what you are planning. A wooden repro cockpit fitted with real parts 😀
Cheers……..

At Newark Air Museum’s Cockpitfest in 2005 there was a Phantom Simulator / Cockpit on display and I believe that the owner was Mike Davey from Hooton Park, Cheshire.
I hope that this might be of help.
It doesn’t seem to be on the list that is on their website for this year’s event on June 16th / 17th.

i don’t know if you’re interested or not, but there’s a scrap yard in Diss with a couple of F4 canopies in it (Gillings government surplus), i think they are the opening, hinged sections. they’ll probably be off a RAF aircraft though. there also used to be advertised a F4 radome in the Mildenhal area for use as a garden ornament. not seen it for sale for a while though.

TT, Was this the one that was at either an airshow or Open day at Brunters in the past and one could sit in it complete with bone dome for a small fee?
Which I did once, great fun ,Zoom…..
Shortly after that I think all Phantoms were recalled by the MOD and scrapped as there were worries that they or parts from, might fall into the ‘wrong’ hands.
Cheers,Alan
Hi Alan,
yes that was the one – obviously Phil will have the full story but I think it was one of the first preserved – he took it (all 20+ft of it!) to various shows on a trailer, and, thinking about it he must have been one of the ‘pioneer’ cockpiters of fast jets….anyway it wasnt recalled by the MOD, I think in a highly amusing adventure he sold it to a chap in Holland, but as I say, Phil will tell you more!

There’s a brief glimpse of the Newark Phantom cockpit on their website:
http://www.newarkairmuseum.org/location.htm
But your project begs one question though …. Will it be at CockpitFest?;)

If you need some technical info I have a couple of AP’s from the FG1/FGR2
I’ve got the cross-servicing guide (AP101B-0900-12B), the servicing diagrams manual (AP101B-0902-10B) and the BDR manual (AP101B-0900-6C).
Let me know what you are looking for and I’ll see if I can scan it and e-mail it to you.

Thanks for the info I will certainly get in touch with them, that sim cockpit would be perfect to replicate.
I will follow that up,
Many Thanks

Newark air museum have an FGR.2 simulator butler01, they are a nice bunch of people up there and they might let you measure up and take photos (for a donation to their cause!) if you asked nicely.
There’s some more info on Damien Burke’s site, along with masses of other information!

I would keep it as an F-4C but then again Im biased.
The first of the US Air Force Phantoms, and the first of the USAF examples to see service in Vietnam.
You may find this www useful if you complete as an F4C.
