Saddly current security means that visits are out of the qeuestion and I dont even think they are visable from outside. There is still an F-100 by the main gate.

I think I read somewhere that they have a plastic 1:1 Spitfire there too.

W&R again… 11, 13-15th editions.
42265 F-100D arrived at Lakenheath 14/5/91, from Molesworth and previously on the gate at Wethersfield – ex FAF. On the dump by 2/92, marked FW-2265. Departed 7/95 – possibly for Soesterberg, Netherlands.

this f100 was parked near the bdrt airframes for one of the airshows. apparently it was to be used in the drone program.

So which one was it? W&R18 has F-15As 30091 and 60029 as not being seen since 10/96 – which is after the above scrapping date – but there hasn’t been any mention of the identity of the scrapped F-15 since W&R16 (unless it was just wreckage, of course?).
Steve – it was an F-105G!

Presumably the F4’s were scrapped as part of the SALT treaty. No idea on the F100 and F15, although I would guess that the latter was at the end of it’s fatigue life or had been damaged beyond repair.

Why were those aircraft scrapped?

Does anyone have photos of any of them?

According to Wrecks and Relics 16th edition F-4C 40707 along with 37471, 37610, F-105G 24434, and possibly an F-15, were scrapped at Lakenheath in May 1996 by Mil-Ver of Coventry.
