F-4S

As much of a Phantom nut as I am, I’ve noticed something rather odd. The F-4S, which I’ve heard on many occasions, was the best dogfighting Phantom variant out there (though it never had an internal gun), and lasted in USMC service until 1992 (finally bowing out of U.S. service with the USN in 2004 as QF-4S test aircraft/drones with VX-30)…….yet, it seems it’s not as common to see good pictures of it or information about it.

I don’t think it’s even been discussed here much.

I thought a thread on it might be fun, and maybe we can learn some stuff about it we didn’t preivously know.

Anyone who wants to contribute their thoughts or opinions or facts or pictures of just whatever then please get involved.

Great photos are especially welcome.

I want to know what all cruises the Sierra model went on as well as its capabilities. Late in its service life armed with AIM-9L and AIM-7F, was it considered any good as a fleet defense fighter?

Anything and everything F-4S related, please contribute.

Thanks in advance.
