F-86A possibly sold

Golden Apple’s F-86A sabre has been removed from Courtesy Aircraft sales website indicating it could have been sold 🙁

I’m not 100% sure though it could just have been removed for sale by Golden Apple

fingers crossed it stays in the UK!!

I remember Mark Hanna enthusing about the Sabre – he said the cockpit position felt more like riding it than flying it.

OFMC – mid 90s – Sabre, Mig-15 flying, Mig-17/21 and Phantom ground-running, any number of Hunters – wow.

And a hangar full of piston power as well!

Glorious days.

On my recent visit to Duxford it was noticable that the hangars are not as full as they used to be. This may be an affect of the Superhangar, but Duxford does seem to be empty elsewhere.

Regards

Those were the best days, how boring Duxford now is with no Hannas!!!

I’d be very sorry to see it leave the UK. As a long standing Old Warden attendee, one of the absolute highlights of OW, ever, is seeing Mark Linney display it there. Magical.

Will be sad to see it leave these shores, if it has been sold i hope its stays in Europe at least and that it makes regular visits over here.

…..and talking about RAF Bentwaters ,is there going to be an AIRSHOW at Bentwaters this year ? as i was also told it will be held every 2 years ? It was a very good show but the locals don.t want it ,they were moaning at the time i seem to remember ,umm James May was there he seemed to like it

No airshow at Bentwaters this year we were told by the airfield owners 🙁 ,i don’t think there was any signifigant moaning from the locals as alot of them remember the old USAF shows there and enjoyed it.
It was just a descision by the owners not to have one.

But the Bentwaters Cold War Museum will be having a big Open Day on Sunday June 17th,2012 which hopefully will include one or two flying items but its still in the early planning stages and i will let the forum know more details on another thread nearer the time.

I once gave up my circuit position at Elvington to let the Sabre land ahead of me. I know how much my fuel was costing and reckoned his would be a lot more, so rather than hold him up at my terrifyling 80 knots …… 🙂

The RAF used Sabres…for a bit. 😮

And this is the only airworthy one in Britain, and the whole of Europe! I think we ought to hold onto it…:p

Not F-86As…and as the sole airworthy one of that Mark, I don’t think it would be wrong for it to be in the US.

Having said that, as a former officer at Bentwaters, I really wouldn’t mind if she stayed in the UK.

Hopefully you noticed the 🙂 in my previous post.

It’s a shame there isn’t a proper Canadian-built Sabre flying in Europe in RAF or Luftwaffe markings.
Cheaper to buy and operate than a Mustang….so you’d think a wealthy German would have one, besides being an aircraft actually used by the Luftwaffe instead of against it.

I remember in 2010 when she arrived at Bentwaters the day before the airshow and beat the place up before landing.

It was just like slipping back in time to when the base housed the 81st Fighter Interceptor Wing who also flew F-86A’s, never get tired of seing her fly.

http://courtesyaircraft.com/inventory%20table.htm
anymore,
but the page at
http://courtesyaircraft.com/Current%20Inventory/G-SABR%20North%20American%20F-86%20Sabre.htm
still exists…
