F/A 18 Crashes near Canary Islands

A spanish F/A-18 operating from Gando AB in Gran Canaria island has crashed this morning in the sea, about 1 kilometer off shore.
Pilot Daniel Aleman ejected and was safely recovered from a SAR helicopter, a SAR Foccker F27 was also involved in the rescue operation. The pilot is believed to be in good condition.
The aircraft was part of 462 squadron, 46 wing.

Spanish AF units based in Canary Islands form the MACAN (Mando Aereo de Canarias – Canarias Air Command), which acts a small air force in the islands, with SAR, transport and fighter duties.
