Popped in today – no photos taken but I thought I’d just let you know that the chap who originated Maintrack Models has donated his entire collection of 1/72 British prototype and experimental aircraft to FAST. The models were being delivered today so should be on display within a few days.
Maybe not as good as the real thing but a highly appropriate display given the nature of the type of flying that went on at the RAE.
They are a great bunch of guys!! am heading down again next week. Anna 😉

Being from the said town, does anyone know why there is a sign that says “Wigan Road” on those first pics???
Thanks,
Paul

Does anyone know the opening times for this museum, looks an interesting little museum might have to give it a look as its quite local to me.
The museum’s open 1000-1600 Saturday and Sunday. Not the biggest display in the world but it’s crammed with interesting stuff about RAE Farnborough.
Here’s their website again

It looks distinctly like the Parrallel Aviation cockpit which is a former Belgian
Air Force machine IF-68 and most likely as F.6.
F6 was my thought  !!! Anna 😉 😀 😀

Flypast says it’s FGA9 XE650. I may wander down later and see if it’s there.

Thanks very much, its not easy to see from a drive past as the ex RAE Hunter obscures it. Sadly I didn’t get time to get over there today, next weekend.

FAST had a new Hunter F6? nose arrive Thursday/Friday, its in Blue Diamonds colors. Would anybody happen to guess at a serial for it? Will try and get a photo later on. I think a Jindivik is due also soon.

There was a fire at the old site a couple of weeks ago and the wind tunnel very nearly went up in flames. Luckily, the fire was spotted early and the tunnel itself was undamaged.

Yes, Tim, after 30 years of wearing the beard, it’s gone! Apologies, Anna, for putting a personal post on your thread, but Tim may not be the only Forum member with the same question!

Hi Anna!
The last picture is nicely composed, with the trees an’ all, but what on earth is it? The wind tunnel?
The biggest building is, indeed, the 24ft low speed wind tunnel, one of the most historic aviation structures in Britain, used for testing full-size aircraft between the wars. the FASTA link has more details of the current and future status of the historic wind tunnels at Farnborough.
