Came across this stone in Canongate Kirkyard in Edinburgh recently, looking a bit forlorn restiung against the memorial to the soldiers from Edinburgh Castle. I’m curious to know about the man who was sent back here from South Africa 13 years after he passed on. Surprisingly, can’t find anything on the internet about him. I’m sure there are people here much more skilled than I on these matters. Can anyone advise?

Possibly your man, F/O James Young Murray, service number 164118, D.F.C. gazetted May 25th 1945:
https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/37094/supplement/2667/data.pdf
The Scotsman newspaper of May 26th 1945 reports the award of the D.F.C. to “F.O. James Young Murray, R.A.F.V.R., No. 608 Sqdn. (Edinburgh).”
Regards
Simon
EDIT – the Scotland’s People website has a James Young Murray, birth registered in the St Giles district of Edinburgh, 1916.
