Another long shot, but has anyone come across a F/O Albert Edward Roy Fairman during any research – I know all about his eventual fate, he was killed on 15.02.1945 at 16:10, aged 23, whilst on a ferry flight, serving as a Third Officer with the ATA. For those who have access to further information on that incident, I have all the details and would prefer to leave it there at this time please.
However I need to know more about him for a project I am getting involved with – I have found that he was from Greenwich, where his parents owned the Angerstein Hotel & the local paper (Kentish Mercury, circa 23.02.45) reported that he had served on operational Bomber Command sorties from the age of 18 & had gained his pilot’s wings just before his 19th birthday + a few other personal details, including his address on Myddleton Square. Another source states that at the time of his death he had flown 500 hours, in Whitleys and Lancasters, mainly on operational sorties + 120 hours with the ATA. He had been wounded by flak resulting in a repair to his foot using a sliver plate, which had resulted in him being dropped from operational flying and having been seconded to the ATA, he was apparently dismayed to discover he was now restricted to single engined types. However none of the sources I have checked so far mention him, but with such a long operational career, surely someone must have come across him at some point? Any leads to further details of his wartime service most gratefully received.

Further to Nick’s post this is his promotion history within the RAF
Service No. (926563) indicates NCO enlistment at Uxbridge September 1939.
London Gazette, Issue 36100 16th July 1943, as of 14th April 1943 Warrant Officer 926563 Albert Edward Fairman (146431) commissioned at the rank of Pilot Officer
London Gazette, Issue 36219 19th October 1943, as of 14th October 1943, 146431 A.E. Fairman promoted to Flying Officer.
I had considered spending a day at Kew going through ORBs for Bomber Command Whitley squadrons to see if his name cropped up.
