Hi guys trying to find any info on Gunther Bahr who flew with NJG 6
From my research i believe it was he who shot down my Grandfather on a raid on Stuttgart 28/29/7/44.
Interested to know abot his career ,pictures and info about the aircraft he flew 7/44 .I believe it was a me110.
It would be usefull to complete the picture of my grandfathers last raid , before being shot down

Pete.

It would be useful if we knew the name of your Grandfather. Identifying the particular crew might make it easier to assign the shooting down of that particular aircraft to Oberfeldwebel Gunther Bahr. He did claim a Lancaster at 02.08 on the 29th July 44 near Stuttgart. Tony Woods Luftwaffe claims lists shows Bahr claiming a Lancaster 20-50 kms v (?West) of objective Stuttgart at 02.08. The link which follows gives a brief biography and photograph of him. It also confirms he was with 1/NJG6 and flying an Me (or Bf) 110:

Further to that, it appears that 1/NJG6 was at Neubiberg nr. Munchen fron June to September of 1944. The unit flew both the 110G-4 and the Ju88G. however, another site showing aircraft strengths and availability shows 32 110’s and no Ju88’s.

Incidentally, Bahr survived the War and joined the Bundeswhr in 1962 retiring in 1975 with the rank of Major. He signed prints for the aviation artist Robert Taylor and I have seen references to him being still alive as of Jan 2008. However, an autograph site I checked showed him as deceased.

Hope this helps.
