F15 Eagle dogfight near Thirsk, Yorkshire, GB

Yesterday (Sunday) was a beautiful day in Thirsk.
The sky was perfectly blue. Could hear a fast jet so looked up to see an F15 at height.
Then I noticed a second going head to head. The two jets then went into a furball.
Now I’m not very knowlegeable about aerial warfare but they seemed to do some kind of high – low combat manouvers.
Ended up with one aircraft high and on the edge of it’s power curve and one bugging out low.
Both aircraft then formed up and flew off.
It’s the first time I’ve seen such a thing and it really made my day. A totally different experience to say seeing them at an airshow.
Is this common in the area? Presumably this is part of their training.
