LMTAS offered a good replacement for the F15E with this A/G version of the F22A. Very effective in SEAD and strike missions, and maybe not too expensive. When USAF decides to buy 2 times as much F22’s, prices will lower. Maybe a better replacement for the F15E than the JSF.
But still, i’ve got some doubts about this.
1. isn’t the F22A also multirole? what makes this new version better?
2. The F22 can take some weapons internal, but not as much as an F15E can carry external. So, will this F22 be used in stealth-mode, or just as a “mud-mover” (then better buy JSF’s, much cheaper)
3. Will this version be a two-seater… nothing can replace a WSO, not even the newest technology.
This program is not official and the F22E probably won’t enter service within next 15 years (compare time between F15A and F15E).
