On our way to the parking area four Gripens came back from a excercise. I managed to snap a photo on 39.205.

Model builders might find it interesting that the hood frame on 39.804 currently has a lighter shade of grey.

The Safir is a great plane in so many ways. I have 250+ hours in Cessnas, Pipers, Mooneys etc. All great aircraft, but the Safir flies so much better. it’s really light on the controls, rolls and loops are made relatively easy. Plus, the six cylinder engine has a nice sound to it.:)

Looking at that I think it is just as well there are no problems. I have to say the Safir always struck me as being likely to make a nice touring aircraft. Certainly its fuel endurance is likely to be more than the pilot’s bladder endurance.

The Safir really does have a rather low ground clearance. But it`s easy to fly and land so, no problems there.:)

Great stuff as usual. Is it just the angle the shot was taken from or does the Safir really have very little ground clearance?

Thanks for your answers Bjorn, hopefully catch one of these aircraft somewhere soon, look forward to your pics.

Does anyone know why the Swedish A/F took the Hunter (and it looks gorgous in those colours!) when they had the Lansen which was along similar lines and powerplant?
The two seated Lansen was from the beginning designed and intended for reconnaissance and ground-attack. The fighter version with a more powerful engine was introduced as late as 1958.
I believe that the Hunter was an interim solution to fill the gap between the aging J29 Tunnan until J35 Draken was operational.

Sorry Robert for going slightly OT here.
A Pembroke will also appear at the Västerås airshow on sunday, so I will shot a picture af that one as well If I get the chance. I believe this is an ex. RAF Pembroke, bought by Flygexpo 1989, and painted as SwAF TP83. As I understand it, it is one of only two airworthy Pembrokes in the world.
Tunnan and sk60 will make a display at the Jersey Air Display september 9th, mavbe an opportunity for you to see them. http://www.jerseyairdisplay.org.uk/

According to the organizer’s programme, there will be a Draken flying on sunday in Västerås.
I will bring the camera, so I can post a picture here if it flies.
Good news, yes please!
Thanks for posting those. Boy would i love to see those classic jets dispalying at Kemble this year… just fantastic they are still flying.
Wouldn’t that be great, I would love to see the Swedish types over here at any one of our shows.
It looks like the Swedish show is a high quality event, and I would rather witness something like that than Fairford these days.
A few questions,
Are all the above classics operated by one flight (ie A/F historic flight) or are they operated by different indiividuals?
Does anyone know why the Swedish A/F took the Hunter (and it looks gorgous in those colours!) when they had the Lansen which was along similar lines and powerplant?
Also will we ever see an airworthy TP83 Pembroke?
It’s really good to see the Swedish remembering their proud aviation heritage like this.

AFAIK, there will be one AJ37 and one SK37 airworthy in the future. Most people would like to see the JA37 flying again, but its systems are too advanced and expensive for this to happen. The AJ37 and SK37 have more analogue technology than the JA37.
There is one J35J Draken waiting to get airborne in the future. It hasn´t flown for many years because the ejection seat needs to be cleared for use first.

That’s good news, that must be quite a beast to keep airworthy?

Thanks guys! Glad you like them!:)
@pagen01
An Sk37 Viggen has been ready for two weeks now, and would have flown at this airshow, however there were still some paper work that needed to be done. So, next time, perhaps?

Fantastic stuff, there’s something about SAAB aircraft, a bit like their cars, you don’t nescesarily want to own one, but you have to admire them!
There is one type definately missing in the three ship flypast, actually make that two (Draken and Viggen!)!
Thanks for sharing:)
