FAA Hand-Propping Accident

If there was a passenger onboard, I guess they did not know what what the mixture is.
I’ve hand propped 13 times without incident but the guy behind the controls has to know what he’s doing too.

Geez, that video is OLD. It was old when I first saw it in my private pilot training days 13+ years ago.

Hand swinging props is a dangerous occupation at the best of times and should not be undertaken without proper instruction from someone familiar with the technique and, as you rightly said, the guy in the cockpit has to be on the ball too. I’ve hand propped an Auster a few times but they are simple to start by comparison with some aircraft and even then great care was exercised on my part.
