Facts about the A380

taken from the Singapore Airlines Website:

Did you know:
The A380 is as tall as 5 Giraffes or 3,493 Ipod Nano’s
The A380 is as long as 2 1/2 Diplodocus’s and as long as 2 Blue Whales
The A380 Wingspan can shelter approximately 2,800 people or 8,400 kiwi’s
The A380’s two passenger decks covers an equivalent floor space of 10 Squash Courts

The A380’s volume is 1,570m3 equivalent to 4.5 Million Tennis Balls or 35 Million Table Tennis Balls

The A380’s fuel tanks could hold a massive 1,241,600 cans of Red Bull
The Tips of the A380’s Titanium Fans on its engines operate at approximately 1.5 Times the Speed Of Sound

To produce the same amount of thrust provided by the A380’s 4 huge Engines you would need Approximately 2,500 family cars providing 110hp Each! <- obviously my car wouldnt be able to contribute that much power 😀

i so want to fly on this plane now 🙁

So you think that Concorde was a completely developed aircraft at time of first flight (which the A380 was)? Delays in A380 were mostly due to production issues for cabin, so the aircraft itself was Ok for service from December 2006. The problems were – from a pure aeronautical engineering standpoint – indepenedent of the aircraft itself. Even a B320 can have delaying production issues.

Nope, I did not say that, nor did I think it. I’m not ignorant.

Right, thats more understandable now.

Concordes delay in entering service was mostly a short sighted political one. (People will die from the sonic booms etc!).

The A380’s repeated delays are not. (Although, I’ll grant you that the political crap behind the dual CEOship etc will have played its part!)

Can I get some of what you’re smoking? Please?

Well, approximately:

Concorde first flight – March 1969
Concorde entry into service – January 1976

A380 first flight was April 2005

So, if A380 enters into service before sometime in February 2012, BA still owns th most delayed jet.

And there was me thinking BA owned the most delayed commercial jets in history…?

They do – Air France is said to have given away theirs. Just when is A380 supposed to beat Concorde´s time from first flight to entry into service?

You forgot an important fact. One that I suspect will always follow it throughout its life, however long that will be.

The A380 has replaced the Lockheed L1011 Tristar and the most delayed Commercial jet in history, with almost 800 days between first flight and delivery of first unit to a customer.

Does that matter to anyone except the Airlines..i don’t think the general public give two hoots that it’s a couple of years late

The L1011 may have been late, and it’s service history was plagued by reliability problems, but it set new standards for safety. Let’s hope the A380 will be as safe……

A somewhat predictable comment, it has to be said.

P.S. Post No.2000! I really need to get a life…

But correct nonetheless.

Sometimes being predictable has advantages 😉 You can save time and effort in explaining things.

Has any customer taken delivery of their first A 380 yet? I don’t seem to recall any news of it happening. The delay between first flight and in service date on them looks like being far worse than the Tri-Star.

Thanks to MS Excel one can compute days as numbers counting from 1. Jan 1900:
First Flight was 27.4.2005, that is day #38469
Delivery will take place 15.10.2007, day # 39370
Inbetween lay 901 days.

Let’s also hope AI can pick up some more sales soon, so the taxpayers don’t end up bailing out the whole project ala the $500 toilet seats on the C-5 program.

Before you continue to spread the media mythology about military parts prices…remember that a restroom in a commecial jet has a list price of about $80,000.
