About July 1944: AVM Hugh Lloyd “put a little Fairchild monoplane at my disposal and I flew to Malta, refuelling at Catina on the way. It seemed unreal to fly over Italy, Sicily and finally Malta in a little unarmed civil aircraft after the battles that had raged over the island only two years before.” (AB Woodhall). Is that likely to be a Fairchild Argus (UC-61) or a Fairchild C8.

Thanks Papa – I was leaning towards the Argus but Lloyd was AOC Mediterranean Allied Air Force by then I think and I wondered if he had access to U.S. aircraft.

It appears from Aerofiles that the RAF had the Argus but not the C-8.
