Tony,

Barnstaple, North Devon makes more sense.
Having lived in Northumberland all my life I could not trace a Barstaple!

thank you

Fairchild UC 61 Forwarder 100409 02/02/1944

Chris,
I am surprised no one has spotted this earlier, but “100409” was not a UC-61 Forwarder serial no.
Rather than a UC-61 (Fairchild Model 24) I think the aircraft involved was this B-24J.
From the AAIR website and database:
Date: 44/02/02
Type: B-24J
Serial No: 42-100409
pilot injury: KCR (Killed in Crash)
Damage category: 5 (aircraft destroyed)
Pilot: Edward M. Coverdill
Country: England
Location of crash: Barnstaple, North Devon.

Sorry, no clues as to the unit to which the aircraft and crew were assigned.
Hope this helps, Tony
