My father was a test pilot for Fairey aviation at Ringway. He was killed on a test flight I believe in a Halifax on the 18th March 1944. Can someone help me get the accident report or anyone that has any recollection of the incident. I believe the aircraft came down close to a small village called Huxley near Chester, ironically his last name was Huxley. The Halifax ids he tested that month were, lk 826, lk 830, lk 829, lk 831, lk 834. I live in Canada so it is hard for me to do any local research. Thanks

Try the RAF Commands forum – you should be able to find it using google easily.
They can probably help you.
Good luck.

The Air Britain file also has LK872 as “no information found”. This is within a batch built by Fairey (LK863 – LK887 delivered between 10.4.44 & 26.4.44).
Kind regards,
Bill

It is also missing from the Air Britiain Flight Testing Accidents book.
I am not sure if it will have any record at AHB as the aircraft was not delivered, the only record may well be in the company records and I don’t know if they still exist.
There might have been an accident report by AIB but almost all of the 1944 reports were never delivered to the National Archives.

The Halifax File from Air-Britain notes that NA507 was “not delivered; possibly crashed before delivered? NFD” (NFD=No further details.) This is the only Fairey-built aircraft noted thus so it could well be your father’s. However, another internet source says that NA507 was operated by 415 Sqdn. The serial could be wrong, though.

Have you looked at the Test Flying Memorial website? Your father’s accident is not recorded and it should be. At least this is assuming that the accident date you have is accurate. I am very familiar with the many wartime accidents in this area but a Halifax at Huxley (about 15 miles from where I live) is new to me.

As the aircraft was an RAF machine and as you are a relative you should be able to get a copy of the accident report via the RAF Air Historical branch.
