Fairey Battle N2188 question

Hi all,

Can anyone enlighten me to what is situated behind the Pilots seat, spanning across the fuselage of the Battle?
There are mounting points, but we cannot locate any decent images of diagrams of what is located here.

That’s interesting reading.
When we next move the wings I will get some photos of the serial numbers still visible on the wings.

RAF Henlow early 1970’s. This is not the Iceland Battle.

Simon,
You are 100% correct.
The wings did come from Canada.
Someone here in the museum has been perpetuating a falsehood.

Thanks Simon,

I have sent you a pm.
The info we have is that Hendon procured the wings from Iceland.
The first 12 inches is missing from both wings.
The fuselage is going to be an epic build. We have bits and pieces with huge amounts of missing sections that we have to rely on images, general engineering knowledge and in some cases, common sense.

The Anson would not have progressed if it wasn’t for Len Whalley and his assistance. Also a lot of other entities have assisted over the years.

Hi CADman

Wings are from P2183 I believe, according to Warbird resource group they were from a Canadian farm.

Nice job Waynne!

wow never knew there was a Battle I survivor in Australia, Your website says ” Later a set of wings was donated by the RAF Museum at Hendon, UK.” Do you know the identity of those wings and were they were found in the UK.

And your restoring an Anson I as well. Very surprised, well done !!!

TT,

those images from the other thread have answered our questions?

There is enough info in two of those pics to determine the makeup of the assembly.

TT,
Medway have given us a copy of all their notes, images and drawings that have been an immense help. Some parts were just not covered during the resto.
And thanks, the guys have worked hard to achieve what they have and we lost one of them recently.

Windhover,
seen that pic but it is hard to determine what exactly is in that space.

The SAAM have enough parts to hopefully at least have what looks like a Battle. The wings though are going to be a massive job as well.

There are some poor pictures of L5343 here:
http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?84709-Fairey-Battle-L5343-Progress
Looks like there’s some kind of structural framing directly behind the pilot’s seat back (Pic 2, post #22). Might be worth contacting the RAFM, or Medway Aircraft Restoration Society) to see if they have a better picture? I suspect this might not be what you’re after…

Amazing progress by the way!
