Canada Aviation Museum’s Fairey Firefly
The museum’s F.R.1 would have been flown by the Royal Canadian Navy until 1950. In 1954 a number of ex. RCN F.R.1’s were sold to Ethiopia. They were reported last flown in 1965. Some were left derelict outdoors at Asmara. Eritria. In 1993 Museum and Canadian Air Force staff dismantled two examples and returned them back to Canada.
This example is displayed much as it was when it first arrived. It appears to be pretty much complete externally (a bit rough). It even still has its RR engine. It would make a pretty interesting display even if it was reassembled and presented as found. Has anyone heard any details of what is to become of this aircraft once the expansion is completed?
Shearwater Aviation Museum in Halifax, Nova Scotia has undertaken the restoration of the other F.R.1 recovered in 1993. This one being Serial No.F.6173 / PP462. It was located on the base at CFB Shearwater.
Does anyone have any details as to its progress? It is still to be to airworthy standards?

This is down right shamefull
Geez…. echos of the halifax at hendon syndrome here.
Whats with getting a rare aircraft that is substantially complete and then just dumping it on display partiall dismantled???
Come on Ottawa do something better than that with the firefly!! If you cant display her as a complete airframe due to spacerestrictions then loan her out to someone who does until that can be rectified!
Now not only do we have a soory lookinf Beau on display but now we have a sad looking wingless firefly!!
