Fairford IAT 1991 – return from The Gulf.

1991 was one of the most memorable IATs for me as it gave me my first look at genuine combat aircraft recently returned from war, as well as the usual variety of vintage shows at Fairford.

First up the Gulf War veterans (Parental Advisory for the last image!).

I didn’t think so, I could only remember seeing the Buccaneers and Tornado GR1s in desert pink in ’90-’91.

Did the RAF fly Phantoms in GW1?

Not in theatre no, 19 sqn was in Cyprus at the time in case of increased tension and they did some “aggressor” training excercises with the US Navy en-route through the Med.
