Following a telephone conversation with a pal this morning I was reminded about a seller on a well known internet auction site who goes by the name of tangmere40. I believe the seller is based in East Lothian, but also happens to be called Andy!
There’s only 1.. .Tangmere40 there’s only 1… Opps 2 Tangmere40

That’s a shock….I’ll alert the authorities.
Next thing you’ll tell me the Jesus’ Rolex on ebay isn’t legit.

No John it’s no surprise at all.
What pees me off, is that even though fleabay have been told this man is ripping people off, they don’t want to know.
It;s also happening on your side of the Pond, where there is an American guy selling fake U.S. Coastguard badges.the metal ones, not the patches.
Jim.

Does it really surprise any of you that there are fakes out there? New “antiques” and phony artifacts have been around for centuries….

One of the many things I collect are old Lighthouse items, which I restore. Many items are badges that Lighthouse Keepers wore, The ships Pilots of Trinity House etc. It was only about 10 yrs ago, that the Irish Lighthouse Keepers cap badge was so scarce, that the Dublin L/Hse museum didn’t have one. I was very fortunate to have an original Vistorian one in my collection.
Likewise Trinity House cap badge, I had the last of their remaining stock. however, I see that there is a chap from Birmingham, offering both the Irish cap badges, and Trinity House ones for sale. They are good repros, but both are missing one very small detail, which the average collector would not know about.
I have found out that as well as being sold in Birmingham, they are made in India, and have told fleabay about this seller, selling repros, but failing to inform buyers they are fakes.
It;s just a couple of things, but the seller is making a living out of selling fakes.
Buyer beware.
Jim.

I have told fleabay regarding these fakes, and the fact the dealer is still selling, but they never replied to my complaint, of folks being ripped off.

No, it was a floorboard. You could hear it because of the deathly silence. Leave the wit to the funny ones Andy, there’s a good chap…

I think Snapper is the culprit, anyway.
I’m sure he lives near Fakenham….
What was that?
Did somebody groan??

It’s not a Jockular matter, Snapper.

They are unable to quip now that you’ve Scotched the rumour Andy.

The programme didn’t say whether or not the people who had bought counterfeit goods had any recourse against the seller, could the police / trading standards do anything or was it simply a case of putting it down to experience?

Now, I have no reason to doubt or question anything this chap is selling but I have frequently been asked about the items “I” have for sale there. Coincidentally, this has recently included medals with a Battle of Britain connection.
For the record, I’d just like to say that there is no connection with me whatsoever, and the name(s) are purely coincidental!
I am quite ready for the ensuing spate of jokes along the lines of “Which one is the fake, then?” and am almost having bets with myself (or my ‘other’ self, perhaps?) as to which bright spark poster will be the first to put up the first quip….
Its neck-and-neck ‘twixt Paul Mc Millan and Robbo , I’d say! 😉
Just thought it was timely and appropriate to post this now.

He said he’d organise a Pole, though! 😉
I’m looking forward to Wojtek’s visit too. Must remember to put some of this in the boot for Legends http://www.beartownbrewery.co.uk/detail,item_id,12-wojtek.php

It’s the fake airworthy parts I worry about, some of the ones caught beggar belief.
Here is an example of things that will kill you

Mark12 felt unable to provide such provenance, I’m afraid Robbo. Something to do with hearsay and the veracity of witness statements. He said he’d organise a poll, though! 😉
Fat chance. 🙂

I was convinced that the provenance of the fake Andy Saunders would be “Thin but robust”. I felt short changed.
