XL are finishing the contract as their 747-300s which have been operating the flight are leaving the fleet.

When I was in NZ in August, there was a big hoo-haa about Air New Zealand carrying Australian troops bound for Iraq, to Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. The big fuss was because someone didn’t quite get round to telling the government and when they finally found out they weren’t happy.

Anyway, it’s obviously not just our government that look for the best priced charter.

Whilst I can see your point of view, it just seems wrong to have an American commercial carrier (nothing against our pals over the pond), transporting passengers on behalf of the British Forces, from Brize to Stanley.
However as a tax payer, I can sypathise with the cost element.

Surely XL can’t be that much more expensive, or am I being naive 😮 .

P.s. Can’t see a need to move to general discussion, this a topic about a commercial passenger carrying contract.:p

To be honest I’m glad they’re tendering bids like this.

No point paying XL more money if Omni can do it cheaper. We’re always the first to moan that money is being wasted. The more competition that can be injected into the public sector the better.

And off to General Discussion we go… 😉
