Falklands Sea King Veteran goes on display
Just found a related link http://www.thisiscornwall.co.uk/Sea-King-helicopter-feature-museum-exhibition/story-15364515-detail/story.html which is a slideshow of 10 pictures, showing how the Sea King was squeezed into its new home – and even better, shows the “yellow” side, the “grey” side, and a “full frontal” shot(!) showing the two (and the dividing line between the two paint schemes)
Text reads as follows:
“More used to seeing Search and Rescue helicopters safely into hangars, this crew had just one and a half inches to spare each side as the Royal Navy Sea King was manoeuvred inside the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. Visitors to Events Square could have been forgiven for their double takes as the Royal Navy Sea King – at 70ft long, 16ft high and 6 tonnes – was brought in on loan from the Ministry of Defence as a highlight of the museum’s new exhibition which opens on March 16. Pictured are engineers, RAF, Navy and museum representatives with the helicopter outside the museum.”

They had a feature on this on our local news last night. It really was a tight squeeze to get her in, took several attempts as it was down to millimeters either side and the under carriage had to be adjusted to lower her down for the rotorhead to clear the door. The paint scheme did look strange but attrctive and from what I could see it looked as though the tail section had been painted separately then re-attached. The yellow/grey scheme looked as if it had been done on the wrong sides of the folded tail section as it looked all yellow on one side with the tail folded whereas there should of been grey showing (if you see what I mean!). It may of been a trick of the light, they showed that bit so quickly it is hard to say for sure. Anyway, she appeared to be parked into a small dark corner so I doubt that anyone will notice. If anyone is visiting perhaps they could check it out.
I believe that due to the space constraints it will be shown with the tail rotor pylon folded, it has been painted in such a way that the correct colour scheme will be on the correct side when its folded, however when its unfolded it will look strange

Well, as its about six minutes walk down the road I’ll pop in when the exhibition opens and take a few shots.
Interestingly, my father works on its 22 Sqn brethren and probably had his hands on this one at some point.

“…the helicopter is painted in the colours of both the Royal Navy and RAF Search and Rescue (SAR) services, red and grey one side and yellow on the other.”
Eek! 😮
