Should all war bird owners be prepping their aircraft ?.
Today it was announced that Argentina and two other neighboring countries are
stirring up for a fight over the Falkland islands. Very convenient now we dont have a lot to send out there and nothing to send it on.We are stealing their oil resources etc and they are going to blockade shipping.
I am sure a quick census around the museums and collectors and we could rustle up at least.
2 x Nimrod maritime recon aircraft
2 Victor tankers for in flight refueling
1 x Vulcan to bomb Stanley runway again.
1 x Shackleton to back up the Nimrods
at least 3 lightnings
some assorted strike masters and JP’s
At least 2 squadrons of spitfires
some P51 Mustangs.
1 x Lancaster
3 DC 3 transports
3 Soko Kraguj Ground attack aircraft.
We might even have a few helicopters around somewhere.
As we don’t have any carriers we will have to string a load of barges together for the spits to operate off and tow them with a couple of fishing boats (plenty stuck in port due to EU policy).
I reckon pretty sorted then don’t you ???
A very Malvina’s Christmas to you all :diablo::diablo::diablo:

Let’s not also forget that a c-17 can hold a lot of special forces paratroops. I’m sure there are both people drawing up contingency plans at the MoD and some of our MI6 friends keeping an eye on the situation in Argentina. Besides the Mail’s only real use is as an emergency toilet roll substitute.
Merry Christmas to you all BTW!

That’s OK, this won’t happen again this time.
No need for Phantoms, we’ll just send the Harriers down on our carriers to sort them out…..
Hang on a minute did’nt we operate the harriers off container ships last time (until they got sunk !!).
What about all the jaguars we have in storage ?.
I have just had another thought boys we have a few Buccaneers in fast taxi mode they could do the job !!!!.
I think the countries with Argentina are Uruguay and I forget the other so we will have to watch the Fray Bentos they will be smuggling in commandos in the shipment to us !!!. (or should it be called “Bully Beef “””)
We have got a few of their Pukaras so we could infiltrate behind their lines and I think they have a few of our old ships already so perhaps we are already behind their lines ???.
This is getting better reports now of Mosquito’s going into production in the colonies to help out.A B17 a couple of Lancaster’s what is there in the other colonies available chaps ??
Anything in India ?,Canada ?, Australia ?,New Zealand ?, South Africa ? (not sure about the last one ).
How about those other foreign johnnies across the pond we have helped them out with all the fuzzy wuzzies recently and two dozen Harriers and we have had so far is Montezuma’s revenge and the Baghdad trot !!!! . Don’t they have some colonies in South America we could use for refueling our squadrons of Spitfires and Mosquitoes etc ???.
What about the Confederate air force do they not have a wing available to come to our Preserve Reserve ??? :diablo::diablo::diablo::diablo:

Everyone keeps saying its tosh things like this never happen.
It just goes to show how the political mind works when the Falklands got
invaded last time a certain very senior Female politician said ” Of Course we will
send down our carriers with their Phantoms to sort them out “
The Response “We got rid of them 5 years ago Prime Minister !!!!”

I just don’t understand why the Nimrod MRA.4’s were not modified to act as long range high altitude smart bomb trucks/storm shadow launchers. They had a huge bomb bay and we could have retired a few tornados from the bomber role and ended up with a superb maritime patrol and defence aircraft and a real strategic bomber all in one neat, cost effective and well utilised package. Still we could always push some MOAB’s out of our C-17’s. I’m sure the yanks have a few spare, after all with our Christmas gift of free harriers (just pay shipping and handling) and our political and financial support of the Joint Strike F*ckup they kind of owe us a favour.

We could also lob rocks out of hot air balloons and blimps.:)

We should ban all Frey Bentos products, except maybe the Steak and Kidney Puds.
Save for the fact that Fray Bentos is in Uruguay not Argentina:D

Nearly as out of date as a lot of our military kit !!!!!!!.
Who ever thought of putting snatch landrovers into Iraq and Afghanistan
wants major temporal lobe surgery !!!!.
Sorry aplogise gone off thread !!!!
All of the good kit that seems to become museum pieces the way things are
cutting back one day we may need to use it again.
If I recall lightnings only became obsolete and out of servcie because they
caused our allies and others to wet themselves when a couple of them came
over stuck on their tales opened the tap and went vertical and levelled out
at 25 thousand feet a few seconds later. Those where the days !!!!!!.
Keep our historic stuff live and flyable one day we might just need some of it ;););)

If push comes to shove, no one has mentioned the Old Warden WW1 collection of assorted flying hardware. They’ll at least sort the Pucaras out and look pretty at the same time !

But just remember that after we’d chucked the Argies out in 1982 most of the ‘locals’ (‘Bennies’ as they were known, with some justification!) just wanted us all to go away and leave them as they had been before the invasion. Which was, more or less, as feudal serfs to the FIC. But if that’s what they wanted, then fair enough. There was not then the ability on the Islands to realise that it was never, ever, going to be the same way as it was before. And I did 5 tours down there. I was more familiar with the interior of some Airbridge Hercs than the Lyneham crews!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to interrupt with realism!

What do we call our preserved reserve ?.
Looks good so far lads .
The aircraft are coming on line by the squadron.
The drone of Merlins will soon be heard from the CAM ships protecting the fleet.
We have moral boosting talks for the lads from Twin Otter,All the catering is
being taken care of by volunteer chefs (NO Corned beef Sandwiches allowed)
We still have the problem of transporting and launching some of our aircraft ???
I heard someone say Typhoons ?? By heck Biggles they have found some
typhoons they will be finding Tempests next !!!!!!.
Has anyone done the calculations for the Victor Fuel loads for the Vulcan
yet?
Whats this VC something ?? Have we joined those Johnny foreigners over the
pond ????we don’t give out medals until after the battle !!!.
Some one mentioned Nato another load of those nasty foreign Johnnies.
Keep up the recruitment drive lads we will soon be the fourth largest air
force in the world the Uk is about number 11 or lower.
Trouble is What do we Call ourselves ????.

Never mind the Fray Bentos pies- we’d better start stocking up on Coffee Then- we’re gonna need it:diablo::diablo:
Fray Bentos are owned by Baxters Food group who in turn are based in Fochabers – not that far away from Lossiemouth and Kinloss…

While totally agreeing with your sentiments, Commander West is spot on by saying that they should send a sub or say one is in the area.
If that had happened before the War would never have taken place, as was proved that the Argentinian Navy is a one shot Navy and after the sinking of the Belgrano they never again left port.
What really pi***es me off is the other South American nations ganging up, so they don’t export anything to us then?Graham

This sounds like press hype to me.
As per usual.
a very capable helicopter and assault ship in the shape of HMS Ocean, which can deploy Apache gunships, all things that we didn’t posess before.
HMS Albion & Bulwark are held in readiness
Actually Ocean has only just returned 2 weeks ago, from a 7 1/2 month deployment so I doubt she’ll be going anywhere soon.
Albion has now entered a period of no deployments and including in this will I believe be a refit.
Bulwark though is now currently the fleet flagship, a role she assumed recently and so she is ready to go at a moments notice.
She has been conducting many excercises of late.
The fleet flagship role is for four years as I recall.
the biggest problem for the RN is the lack of some kind of fleet air defence other than ship borne missiles and a lack of proper carrier strike capability.
I’m not quite sure how an Apache Gunship would fair in what would be a naval operation away from land because of a blockade.
If it’s close enough to the Falklands, then as you have indicated, the land based assets we have stationed there, will likely more than cover these roles.
