Just thought I would post this out of interest.
My Great Uncle Charles Built a Caravan out of 2 Horsa Cockpits in the mid 40’s
These Pics were taken in 1947 and 1948 were the caravan was based in Bognor.
Here are a couple of pics. Last one is with 2 of my Dads sisters and my Dad as a little boy stood in and infront of it.
Regards
Mark

That is a Waco Hadrian and not an Airspeed Horsa.

I know where there are some other bits but I’m not supposed to say 😛
If I can be bothered to dig them out I’ve got various pics of the mock-ups being built along with them being installed/dressed on set.

I wonder who built the Horsa replicas for Bridge Too far, maybe a company in Holland. . None seem to have survived, sadly.

I saw what looked like the rear end of a Horsa near Colean near Cardiff when I worked there in 1988 it was painted black.

Fantastic! I remember seeing some horsa wheels on a trailer near Witney when I was a youngster. The farmer told me he had bought 3 complete gliders at the end of the war. He said I still have them somewhere. We went to the smallest shed ever where he had a bucket of steel fittings! He’d kept the wheels and legs and this bucket! We acquired them and donated most of it to middle wallop

Bargin. I’ll take two.
Must admit it made me wince watching all the belts and fittings being stripped out. Took me ages to find one and there they are just tossing them 😀

A fascinating ‘snapshot’ of another era, when everything was in short supply.
On a forum like this, the obvious question is ‘what became of them? ‘ but wooden airframes, living outside, probably tells us all we need to know.
I wish my family had owned a couple of warbirds as well !

What a great idea. Any idea what happened to it?
