Just seen this over on WIX, thought it would be worth posting here.
Fantastic colour slides from the 1959 USN Miramar Airshow and 1961 USN North Island Airshow….:):)

Superb archive of pictures.
Particularly liked the A-26 with a day-glo painted Firebee stuck on top of each outer wing – great modelling subject!

Does anyone know what the little 5 or 7 cylinder radial biplane is?
The plane is a 1929 Fairchild KR-21, powered by a Kinner R-5 radial.
It’s still registered with the FAA.

Tremendous shots, thank god someone with colour films took these great pictures.
I’m assuming that is the prototype F-4 Phantom in the 1959 album. The Convair 880 looks fantastic.

Hi,
Here is an air show at USN North Island taken back in the 1930’s. Thought you would enjoy it.

Remarkable – strange how the shots of the ‘antique’ aircraft such as the F6F, Corsair etc could have been taken yestrday and all the then ‘modern’ hardware on show are the real gems, much since disappeared.
