Farewell Richard Griffiths

The actor has died aged 65 after complications following heart surgery.

Obituaries are appearing, regrettably many stating he was best known for appearing in the Harry Potter films.

Sad that such a distinguished career should leave that as its prime mark on popular culture.

Withnail and I however – different story.

Even I (an obsessed Harry Potter fan) will admit that he should be remember for a lot more than just that.

Especially things such as when he portrayed King Henry VIII with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Another actor I should look up to.

R.I.P. Mr Griffiths.

A talented actor.

More recently known for incidents while on the stage:

During a performance of The History Boys, Griffiths became so annoyed at a man in the audience whose mobile phone rang repeatedly through the play that Griffiths stopped acting after the sixth time and ordered the man out of the theatre. More recently, Griffiths asked a member of the audience to leave a performance of Heroes after her phone rang three times. This interruption of a performance due to audience distraction has happened no fewer than three times in his career.

And just before curtain up at The Sunshine Boys, Danny de Vito made a very amusing announcement referring to these incidents and requesting that people turn their phones off. And rightly so!!

I heard this an hour ago. Very sad indeed and unfortunately actors will always be best remembered for the most popular roles.

Apart from TV and film he had a very distinguished theatre career most notably in The History Boys and I saw him only last year in The Sunshine Boys at the Savoy.
