I know it was a while ago now but i was there on sunday the 7th September 1986 and i am sure that late afternoon the new AWAC 707 flew past fairly low being followed by a Shackleton moments later.
I have never managed to confirm this duos appearance on this day and a book on Farnborough shows by John Blake omits this in the flying programme listings?.
The show was most memorable for the only appearance of the EAP and SR71Blackbird.
Can anyone help me on this question, maybe you were there also as the day was for once sunny and warm!.

Im almost sure the shack was introduced by the commentator in 1990 as being Mr Rusty… although I think he also used the phrase “reliably informed” so it might not have been…

I’ve been trawling the net high and low for info on this and can’t find anything at all.
However I’ve just dug out my slides of Farnborough 1990, and they show E-3D ZH102 with Shackleton WL747 trailing behind.
I think they flew direct from Waddo, as I don’t have shots of them landing, taking off.
This is not to say that the same thing occured in ’86 with an E-3A or B, that would probably have been the nearest show to the decision by the RAF to go with the Sentry.

There was definitely a Shackleton and E-3D Senty flypast at Farnborough 1990, the E-3 was ZH102, but will have to look at my slides to confirm which Shack, WL757 rings a bell though.
