Farnborough – Oct 16th centenary flyby???

My other half works on the Farnborough Business park and they have been told there is a flyby organised for tomorrow. She reckons a Spitfire and Otter(???) have already arrived and they have been told the Vulcan and a Hurricane are due in. It’s supposed to all kick off around 12.00.
Anybody have any further details?

Please bear in mind that her aircraft recognition skills are very limited so the Spitfire could turn out to be something else! And as for the Otter I’m not even sure she has ever seen one.

That would explain why all the engineers were sat in the cafe in the terminal at EGLF this afternoon…

What a shame, they don’t seem to be having much luck this year.

Yep – one of the brakes need replacing so it’s staying around Farnborough for a few weeks. The main problem is resource as techies/crew are going on there well deserved post season hols and won’t be back for a week or two.

From the TVOC web site

Urgent Announcement

Due to a brake unservicability problem XH558 will not be returning to Bruntingthorpe this weekend.

It will be 2 – 3 weeks before a replacement brake is available and the aircraft will remain at Farnborough during these weeks .

At present it is still planned to hold the welcome home day on Sunday for those who wish to show their continued support and celebrate the end of a first year of flying.

A fuller statement will be made later today

V903, do you have an approximate landing time at Bruntingthorpe (or does 4pm still stand?), we’re hoping to head over and see her touch down if possible.

Any help much appreciated,

All the best,

Dean

At the mo.
Depart 15.00hrs heading to Hook turning northbound. There are 20,000 cars at Bruntingthorpe so I hear, parked up, so it might be tight!

Crew for this years final flight (and it is the FINAL flight for 2008, come on lets see her off!).
David Thomas
Bill Perrins
Barry Masefield

Best view point for local chaps are Tweslesdown Hill, Fleet Shopping Centre Car Park.

Saturday 18th October is of course one year on from first flight.

The local BBC TV South news introduced their piece on the event and FAST’s replica Cody Army aircraft No 1 with a picture of the wrong Cody! Bill instead of Sam. To be fair it IS a common mistake

BBC News report

They seem confident about the Vulcan

A Vulcan also took part – perhaps for the last time it will take to the air.

I will get the depart times for Saturday. Likley routing will be Farnborough, NE Basingstoke, Newbury, Oxford, Northampton running into Bruntingthorpe around 16.00hrs. The owners of the airfield *might* let you in at Brunty. It’s been done before.

It’s on the VOC site, refresh your browser.

I read on one of the other forums that the Vulcan will depart Farnborough on Saturday afternoon so there’s another opportunity to see it Oz!

It’s alright for some. I still haven’t managed to see the Vulcan since it’s return to flight. Been u/s everytime I’ve gone to an airshow. Would’ve liked to have gone down to Farnborough today but had to work. I’ve got next week off – typical! Had to make do with a trip to Dunstable Downs in my lunch hour to watch some gliders. They’re not quite as impressive as the Vulcan – I want some NOISE!

I just noticed in “Spotted” that Plane Space reported a Spitfire over Sandhurst this afternoon so I guess there could be some truth in this.

But I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for the Vulcan.
