So thats up to a possible 140 Embraer 175s for Flybe? They must be feeling a bit ambitious! 😮
By: Skymonster - 20th July 2010 at 16:38
Am I correct in the assumption that the 40 ‘purchase right’ options means that Flybe have negotiated the price and have the option but not the obligation to acquire the a/c. Whereas the 65 options will require further purchase negotiations.
No… Usually:
Option = paid deposit, pre-agreed price AND delivery date/position, with the “option” to go ahead or cancel before a pre-agreed date
Purchase right = pre-agreed price but no committed delivery date/position (can be converted into an option or an order, but only when that is done will delivery date/position be determined)
That is, options are a bit more firm than purchase rights, and purchase rights usually need further negotiation but options less so.

Jethro that’s my understanding of it mate, but again I could be wrong. I am back at work tomorrow after some leave, so no doubt there’ll only be 2 topics discussed on the flightdeck over the coming weeks. I’ll be sure to gauge some more information then.

I see, I think Flybe is a good case study till now for markets in Asia, specially China and India where airlines are still skeptical on connecting feeder routes and offering more services on regional levels where there is almost nil competition.
By: Deano - 20th July 2010 at 09:52
If I am completely honest kabir I have no idea. I was told last week that the EMB175 is very, very unlikely, now look what’s happened. It wouldn’t be prudent of me to second guess what they are going to do but I know the 175 initially is to replace alot of Q400s that will be coming to the end of their lease.
With the Air France code share I guess there could be expansion into Europe, I can see something happening in France. I’ve heard we are looking at European bases and an expansion plan consisting of a fleet of 160 aircraft. Again this is only rumour, I can’t say for sure.

Correction made.
Deano what kind of initial expansion will Flybe look at with the arrivals of the first EMBs?
By: Deano - 20th July 2010 at 09:39
Kabir just to correct you there, 35 firm orders, 65 options and purchase rights on another 40.
Essentially 105 options.

Easy & Ryan have nothing to fear, we will never compete against them, we fly niche routes from niche bases and this is set to continue. The only times we compete with them is when they put an aircraft on the same route.
