Be warned..some are of human remains. From what I gather the remains will be sent back to Germany..another flyer makes it home….

OK, I have a Zip file of all the pics that were displayed, if anyone wants them I will send them, but after a few days, as I don’t want to send to each person individually, so will wait till I have a few takers. File is around 5MB, it will contain the ‘remains’ pics and I notice one or two don’t open in photoshop.

I’ve heard horror stories about the remains of german pilots being desicrated in Russia – a friend of mine brought up a bf109 from a lake with the pilot still in it. The russian recovery crew promptly tossed him back in the lake – there is still a lot of serious animosity towards the germans in the east.
Maybe it’s easier for us to see things differently, as we in Britain were not over run by Nazi occupiers and forced to endure the terror of that brutal regime. I can believe that there are still strong feelings in Russia, and probably the other way round too, especially in Eastern Germany, it will probably never be totally forgotten. I hope that whoever was flying this machine will be flown home for a proper burial, I assume that he was flying with ID tags and could be identified?
They mention a swamp, I presume that it has frozen? I understand that the Yak 1 currently under restoration at Hawker Restorations was recovered from a frozen lake in somewhat more complete condition though!

Guys
The pics were taken off because of the big debate as to weather they should have been up in the first place..obviously the Russians have a slightly different view about the whole thing that we westerners do, and some of them read the mirror board that is english.
I have requested pics from the source and will let you know if I get them..minus the ‘remains’ pics ;-0Dave
If the pics were of the pilots remains, then that’s fair enough. Would be nice to see the overal condition of the aircraft though.

I also followed this link but all I got was PAGE NOT FOUND.

I followed the link and every time I hit a photo link, it comes up with a 404 message. Any one else got this problem?

I saw the pics – the preservation was truely remarkable. I don’t think it was at all appropriate to post the pics of the pilots remains – but these went up on the sturmovik site so i’m afraid it’s not surprising. Not wishing to go down the political route, just out of interest and respect for the fallen, but in such as case like this would there be a full military service at a German miltary cemetary…or does this sort of thing ‘go quietly unoticed’ over there..?
Still not pleased about the publishing of the poor guys remains… 😡

I cannot agree more Peter
Today any missing person, no matter from which nation, just deserves to be brought home.
Cheers

I was amazed at the condition of the wreckage but was saddened by the pics of the remains. We all talk about how great it would be to find these aircraft either crash remains or other, but we never really stop and think of the loss of life that goes with them.
I am pleased to hear that this airman that paid the supreme sacrifice for his country will finally be laid to rest

Wk# cross reference?
Can anyone cross reference the Werke# for the plane (19438 or 10438). Looks like a 109-E4. I’m sure more than a few people here would be interested to know more about the history of the flight, and the identity of the pilot.

I agree with Steve up to a point – but hopefully the pilot will have a decent buriel and his effects returned to his family.
The condition of the find is astonishing though – some of the parts look as if they left the factory last week. How many other sites like this must there be throughout Russia?

Very sobering. Those little personal items are what hit you the most; banknotes, rings, a 1938 christmas present from Margot… In a way, I wish I hadn’t looked at the pictures, it feels like a bit of an intrusion really. I hope this particular young man is finally given the burial he needs.

I cut and pasted some of the text into bablefish and got the following, the chap seems saddened to have found human remains which is a good thing and indicates (to me at least) that he is part of a proper historical group rather than a bunch of souvenir hunting scroats.
Can anyone on here speak Russian for a better translation ?
From the babelfish:
It decided 4 on your forum of fotok a little to lay out. But that look something not who interesting fotok it lays out?. Small prehistory of fotok? Here recently in Velikie Luki (if to be precise, then not in the bows, but in the Pskov province) took out of the swamp remains BF109F. on some unit plates written that it to a series E but most likely F shorter hybrid some (still IL2 it were dragged along, but it to drag they did not begin, they tore out only motor?. But pitifully they speak small aircraft in a good state it was one additional IL2 completely entire they found, rural even instruments did not unscrew. But it was in the deaf swamp on the islet.) Me to the deepest regret, with the extraction there was remains not? (I transfer interesting passed on RTR, in it said as the small aircrafts in the Pskov province they raise.) If without me still they take out tank of the swamp, then I will cry. Messer was at depth 12 meter under water. Generally on the stories of rural our brought down Messer, and Messer brought down our. Our immediately fell and exploded. But Messer sufficed to the swamp and roofings he fell into a spin roofings in the peak. (later you themselves will see the legs of pilot. Immediately to see that it sat down itself rapidly on them.
But with a study of the guns, which viseli on the wings, it turned out that Messer from the guns even not time not of vystrelil.(4 even he did not know that in Messers the cases into the special sections were added. Interestingly and in the game of case they depart in Messers with the shooting from the guns;) )
There is such theory, that the German, who governed aircraft, ranil’ into zhopu of 20mm by projectile and it died or lost consciousness in flight. Later you will see hole in the seat. (German it broke in half ****yu ptom.) Unfortunately, the wings from Messer of sperli rural of t.k with the impact about vodu(boloto), wings fell off and remained to float on the swamp. Well and their rural privatizirovali. Well all 4 surely you killed by its theories here Of fotki and small description to them. I laid out only most interesting Fotki:
