Fastener joints in 787 wing require rework

Clicky Click

When will it end for the B787? It seems they knew about the issue late-2009, and it is nearly mid-2011 now. Some people at Boeing must been losing a lot of sleep at night.

No the problem isn’t a show stopper to prevent launch customer deliveries

No the problem isn’t a show stopper to prevent launch customer deliveries

Even if it meant swapping newer wings into previously assembled aircraft it would have been all part of the Boeing plan.

This is Boeing in full swing for ANA – “Boeing to fly 787 to Japan for readiness Test” http://www.boeing.com/Features/2011/05/bca_SROV_05_26_11.html

“….It is the aviation industry’s equivalent of a dress rehearsal.

Boeing announced it plans to fly the new 787 Dreamliner to the home of its launch customer ANA in early July to simulate in-service operations across several airports in Japan…

….Steve Gregg, a Boeing airplane maintenance engineer, will accompany ZA002 to Japan. He and the Boeing team will work alongside ANA mechanics to perform ground procedures and nightly inspections.
“It’s going to be great to have the interaction with the customer, be able to help introduce them to the new airplane.”
Boeing plans to deliver the first 787 to ANA in the August to September, 2011 timeframe. ….”

On target for Q3

Which sort of confirms what I understood – that the wing fastener issue has been dealt with.

Yes Boeing have not changed the planned Q3 delivery to ANA

Otherwise Wall Street would have been jumping and stocks would have fallen.

This makes the B787 sound like a giant Airfix kit.
The first aircraft are due for delivery soon, aren’t they?

Ah.. it’s all down to money… the last paragraphs says it all:

β€œThe complaint involves matters of fact and law that are not unique to this case, and it was issued only after a thorough investigation in the field, a further careful review by our attorneys in Washington, and an invitation by me to the parties to present their case and discuss the possibility of a settlement.”

If the action are truly “Union busting” why would a “settlement” be considered?
They’re just out to milk Boeing for $.

I think the new issue about the old issue is that it is taken longer than planned to complete the work.

Or did I read it wrong?

Must be a slow news day. Reporting on an already identified and being dealt with issue.
Scaremongering in an attempt to get papers sold and website hits methinks.

It clearly states this issue was identified and the fix planned for in the latest schedule update. EIS should not slip.

Then again, they’ve said that before.
But this time it does truly look like it was known and is being dealt with. Someone seems to think its a new issue though.
