Remind me the C-17 that landed on the wrong runway. This was indeed a similar story but with with a much better outcome obviously:

The VOR/DME approach diagram is shown on the Avherald page. Well that the two runways are lined up, they are 10km apart, using the DME, they should have been no lower than 5500′ over the Fat’h airfield, indeed higher if they were flying an accurate vertical pattern. They did have an FMS as seen in a picture on Avherald, but it is not known whether it was working or if they were using it.
