That makes two of us.

Hope this is not too far off the subject but remember the troop carrying gliders of WW2? Guess they can build ’em as big as they want ’em.

Looks like the cirrus’ emergency parachute system didnt do any good.

Indeed not. Just gave them longer to burn on the way to the ground. 🙁

No, sadly not in this case. And I knew several guys whose lives would have been saved by a parachute like that, including my very first instructor. 🙁

The people in the glider escaped unharmed. The occupants of the Cirrus jumped out at high altitude probably to escape the flames, and died from the fall. The towplane pilot was also killed. There are some videos on You Tube but they are blocked, however this one works : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j46yEMhvkMY

It also confirms that it was a 2-32

3 seat glider

There are 3 seat gliders. A fairly common one in the USA is the Schweizer 2-32. I tried one once. A bit tight with 3 aboard. I do not know whether this was the one involved here, but quite possibly.

Its times like this when im reminded how I was really lucky with my close encounter with a twin star in 2008.

R.I.P to those involved.

A little misleading there, as the Glider wasn’t really involved in the accident, just the Pawnee and the Cirrus.
