Fatal skydiving accident in Poland.

From ASN :

A Piper PA-31P Pressurized Navajo skydiving plane was damaged beyond repair in an accident near Czestochowa, Poland. One of the 12 occupants survived the accident.

This is the third serious skydiving accident in Europe in recent years. R.I.P.

Don’t think so, the FAA record the plane as a ‘P’. As you suggest, perhaps an odd choice for a jumper.

The FAA occasionally gets things wrong. A year or so ago in the daily accident summary they reported a T-6 with a broken nose wheel on landing.

Odd they’d be using a Pressurized Navajo……the larger Chieftan makes more sense.

I bet ASN has made an error. Not all PA-31s are “P”s…

Most small piston twins will probably fly at gross weight with the critical engine inoperative at sea level ISA conditions, but need to be flown precisely. Any mishandling will degrade the performance even more as will out of C of G condition.

Yes engine trouble is mentioned; http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-28181091

I was able to open the link this morning, looks like the plane tried to make an emergency landing in a wooded area. Obviously something happened too low for the parachutists to get out.

Yes…poor souls…similar happened here this summer 11 on board 8 died. RIP.

Why do they put so many jumpers in…exceeding the normal passenger count !?

Shouldn’t the Topolow accident say 11+1 in the record ?

This plane was just 64 lbs overweight; http://generalaviationnews.com/2009/09/16/overloaded-airplane-stalls-on-takeoff/
