Fate of Hellcat JV111?

Picked up a magazine from 1983 in which there is an article about Hellcat JV111. It was trawled up onto a Spanish beach in December 1979 and the fairly substantial remains were seemingly offered to the FAAM who turned it down. It seems it then went to a scrapyard for the next 3 years before being bought and removed. Does anybody know what happened to it? The colour plate in the magazine shows it to be almost intact though minus engine and prop and the paintwork and markings were still visible.

I wonder how the Ulster guys are getting on with their recovered ‘cat…. JV 482 ?

Currently distracted with a Phantom I believe.
But hopefully it won’t be another 32 years before the Wildcat is finished! 😮

Nice to see that JV482 has had better luck than JV111.

Damned shame, that is a whole lot of potential museum exhibit that probably would have rotted away after prolonged exposure to air…

Thank you anyway.

Be nice to see the pictures.
A quick search of the net seems to imply that it just…disappeared. Probably scrapped, for shame.

Sorry for the delayed reply, snafu. Yes, it does seem that it was most likely scrapped – a real pity. I’m assuming, with the age of the mag and there is no mention of the photos being copyrighted, that it is ok to post them –
