Aircraft Motion Pictures
Pick #1. Dive Bomber (1940)
Shot in color during the transition of USN aircraft
colors from vivid peacetime to drab wartime.
Full Navy co operation shown my those massive
squadron flying sequences. Music is a positive
plus. Available in Video.
Pick#2 Strategic Air Command.
Color, and those flying sequences
are stunning.

What’s the film with Richard Drayfus as the ghost of a fire bomber pilot done in the early 90’s

I would have added the Blue Max for its WW1 content, but I reckon its flying sequences look too staged compared to Aces High 🙁

Not in any order:
Dr Strangelove.
Battle of Britain.
Dark blue world.
Dambusters.
I have to say I do like Top Gun for the arial sequences.
Did anybody see the film adaptation of ‘Trinity’s Child?’ Chilling but good. It had James Earl Jones in it but I can’t remember the name of the film, it wasn’t Trinity’s Child.
Also I saw a very good film a short while back about the USAAF 8th Air Force. Considering it was an old black and white film, the acting and the arial sequences were better filmed than Memphis Belle, extremely atmospheric and the worst thing is I can’t remember the name of the film.
Reach for the sky.
Angels 19
Can’t think of any more.

Anyone see Mosquito Squadron last Sunday?
Can’t fault the ‘planes but David McCallum looked like he was sleep acting all the way through.
Still, Hollywood will probably remake it in some way, some day, maybe using a Fortress or two and using British actors to play the baddies – another job for Alan Rickman – like usual!

Iv’e just watched the Spirit of St louis starring James Stewart as Charles Lindbergh

Hey, what about Wings of the Apache??? Okay the acting and story line was **** but it’s not every day u see an AH-64 taking on Drakens and an MD-500 now is it???
Outside of this, ummmmm, The Battle of Britain had some good scenes.

The Mustang airfield attack made me jump out of my chair! Still gives me the goosebumps, whenever I see that scene.
Empire of the sun is fantastic. Extremely profound movie.
I like the scene when the boy leaves the fancy party to fly his glider. He finds the downed japanese plane, crawls into the cockpit wearing dark Ray Bans and plays mock aircombat with the glider. Supreme!! Spielberg at his best.
King Jester
PS: One of the funniest aviation sequences is Ahnold dodging skyscrappers in downtown Miami in a Harrier II. Realism=zero, but very, very funny. Can’t recall the name of the movie, Schwarzenegger and Jamie Curtiss, spy movie…. bad guy gets fired thruw building on the tip of a Sidewinder…..

Here is a little food for thought-
http://www.coastcomp.com/av/fltline2/avmovie.htm
Have a flick through and remember the good, the bad, and the down-right ugly that has been released with an aviation theme.
