Favourite airline 'boss'

There are lots of people I admire in the aviation industry. I really admire the likes of Errol Cossey and Alan J Snudden who did much to improve the quality of charter services in this country. Errol Cossey was involved in the setting up of Air Europe along with Harry Goodman, another man with flair. Cossey then went on to work with Air 2000 in its early years and was later responsible for setting up Flying Colours, another quality IT carrier.

Alan J Snudden worked at Dan Air and Monarch for many years and was a real old-fashioned gentelmen who was highly respected by his staff.

And then of course there is the real pioneer of cheap air travel and free enterprise Sir Freddie Laker, a man who behaved with more decorum than O’leary ever has.

Anyoner else share my views or have another favourite airline boss?

BA already give out pretzels (at least they do out of Gatwick). I find them as tasty as the cardboard box my breakfast cereal comes in!

My vote goes to Gordon Bethune – CEO Continental a/l. Under his leadership the airline was transformed from the worst to the best US intercontinental carrier.

I’d rather have Peanuts or Pretzels than some inedible friggin All Day Deli…

…especially when the water has leaked and soaked everything (as mine had, and I was refused a replacement as there weren’t any spares) 🙁

Yes and probably the service levels. I would find myself been given peanuts or pretzels on BA flights.

I hope not, although I never thought Swiss would. They now charge for meals on their European flights and quite outrageous prices too.

well, they’re managed badly and must do that to survive.
BA on the other hand are in profit, despite their full service

Not neccessarily.

BA would not drop their full service. Its just not going to happen.

Running a flag-carrier is a bit different from running a loco! I hope BA stays true to its values and continues to provide a full service for its passengers. Not everyone wants no-frills!

BA are one of the few airlines that have been able to continue offering a full service yet still reduce ticket prices to compete and in some case undercut LCC’s.

I think that were BA to appoint Kelleher, thier costs would go down further, due to his experience.

Moritz Sutter did an excellent job as head of Crossair. If only Swiss still had his vision… *sigh*

Perhaps Mr Kelleher “could” be head hunted for Rod Eddingtons position at BA when he leaves?

Certainly would be a good move for ba 😀

Rod Eddington – He more or less saved BA from turning to dust.
Stelios – Taking 2 737-200’s and building such a huge low cost carrier in a matter of years.
Howard Kellerher – Wow, what he can do with a 737, its mind boggling. Southwest operate their 737s and the lowest cost level in all of the US.

The management of VLM (do not know their names) because that is one hell of a well-run carrier.

Stelios from EasyJet seemed to be a good airline boss.

SNBA are getting it together.

I think Brett Godfrey has done a stirling job with Virgin Blue in the relatively short time it’s been in existence
