The ‘Blue note’ thread has got me thinking about sounds associated with aviation…for me they are a big part of why I’m so fascinated with all things aeronautical, always have been. My 1st airshow, all I can really remember is the noise!
So what sounds raise your hackles, stop you dead in your tracks or give you that nice warm glow? For me:
Merlin snap crackle and pop (is this caused when they throttle back?)
Chinook on full chat pulling a tight turn, SLAP!
The aforementioned Hunter Blue Note
Supercharger whine on a DB engined 109..menacing!
B29 startup, those big Pratt and Whitneys sound gooood
The pregnant silence just before sound of a fast jet catches up!
A10 brrrrrrrrrppppp!
