Well, what’s yours?
I still like to wake up with Jacques Dutronc’s “Il est cinq heures”. Apart from that Charles Aznavour is also pretty good. And you ofcourse all know the song Serge Gaingsbourg and Jane Birkin covered a couple of decades ago 🙂

Nice question Ben,
Well it has to be the song about Paris. But I don’ t know the title and artist perhaps one of you knows.
Paris seveille
The spelling is the worst but perhaps it does ring a bell?

Which punk group did a cover of Chanson D’Amour?
Does that count?

But to some Plastic Bertrand is the only bit of ‘French’ music they know!
Flood.
By: Geforce - 2nd January 2004 at 13:37
Plastic Bertrand’s song is not actually a chanson, it’s rather disco. But good as well.
BTW, what’s actually the “connection” between The Bollock Brothers “Harley david SOB” and Gaingsbourg?
French was very popular though in the seventies … even Americans liked it. Psycho killer, qu’est-ce que c’est?
By: Flood - 2nd January 2004 at 13:32
And Plastic Bertrand – Ca Plane Pour Moi – was Belgian, before anyone starts!
All that springs to mind, for me, is Chandon D’Amour by Manhattan Transfer… And they were Yanks!!!

Well the only French song I can think of other than the Gainsbourg/Birking song, is Eiffel 65 ‘Blue’…
“I’m blue ba ba dee ba ba dah” etc…
And yes, it is crap, I hate it with a passion.
