Favourite Comic

The Beano celebrates its 65th anniversary this week. What was your favourite comic when you were young? I preferred the Beano to the Dandy, I never liked that strange cat on the cover.

Also, was there a Beezer and Topper combination at some point?

Those Commando and Battle pocket books were always a good read. Never really got into the Marvel comic books, couldn’t get interested in fictional super heroes when there were plenty of real ones to read about.

Redtop mate

Am I slipping into my dotage by reminiscing about my childhood – it is late :p

Yes, there was a Whizzer and Chips-but it wasn’t a patch on the Beano or even Dandy.

sorry, hamfistedness strikes again ; yes there was a comic called Beezer – seem to remember it was incorporated into one of the others – possibly Beano – in the early 80’s. Does anyone recall a comic (or strip) by the name of Whizzer & Chips, or did I just make that up in my head?

It has to be Beano not Dandy – I always read the Bash Street Kids first. I remember Victor as well – later didn’t it merge with Valiant? – and those little WWII picture post books.

Also was there a Beezer?- larger size than Beano? Happy memories.

Moved onto American DC & Marvel later but they were really different.

I used to get Eagle every week..
Then onto more of the american style comics from Marvel etc..
Evil Ernie and Lady Death were blinding…
Cannot remember the publishing company…
I know they have gone broke now…
I will have to dig the old comics out and give them another read…
You sparked of some fond memories in me…
Thanks for that…

VLM Flyer.

Definitely the Beano early on. The Dandy never really appealed. Neither did Whizzer & Chips. Later it was Battle, Warlord and Victor for me.

Battle. I recently went and got all the annuals (missing 1976) off Ebay. Cracking read.

Bootneck Boy, the sarge, Joe Two Beens, Hellman, Darkies Mob etc.

Has ANYBODY got any ‘Joe Two Beans’ stories? I really need to read him – he’s missed out of every annual!
